Does a Doula Replace My Nursing Staff/Healthcare Givers?

No.

 

As a doula, I provide support. I do not take blood pressure, do vaginal exams, or offer medical advice.

 

Rather, as a doula, I will be able to provide continuous emotional support, help with trips to the bathroom, report what is happening, and provide a calm environment (for example) so that you can labor in a relaxed, positive atmosphere.
