Black Hills Doula is
Alicia Sutliff-Benusis

I hold a PhD in English literature, specifically Shakespeare. A native of the Black Hills, I grew up in Rapid City. My husband and I (also a Rapid City native) moved back to the area, where we raise our two daughters, along with our Pembroke Welsh Corgi. A passionate educator, I now follow this passion to teach as a doula.

My Path as a Doula

I began my path as a doula after an extremely positive birth experience with my first daughter, and this path continues after a great experience with my second daughter. My husband and I greatly appreciated our health care provider, doula, support staff, and family around us during my pregnancies and their births. With such positive experiences, I took my passion to help other women and their families have positive, exciting, and happy birth events as well.

It is an Honor

As a doula, it is my firm belief that all birthing women should have knowledge, support, and respect, allowing them to have empowering and satisfying birth experiences. I also clearly adhere to a doula's scope of practice, offering physical and emotional support while respecting the healthcare provider's expertise. I am a certified ICEA doula, helping women have happier experiences since 2012. It is an honor to help families bring new babies into the world.
